Jackson Family Wines Scholarships

 

Jackson Family Wines will be awarding a total of three scholarships for the Advanced Sommelier Course per annum across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

They will cover the cost of the Advanced Course and the elected candidates will be awarded 300 pounds (or equivalent currency) to help towards their studies.

Accommodation and travel costs will not be covered.

Candidates should provide a CV and answer the following 3 questions as a submission:

  1. In no more than 300 words, Where would you like to be in your career in 5 years?
  2. In no more than 300 words, How do you see the role of Sommelier evolving in your country?
  3. In no more than 300 words, What is your opinion of the current state of the Californian wine industry?

Jackson Family Wines announces winner of Court of Master Sommelier Scholarship: Britt Ng (Malaysia / Singapore)

Hong Kong, January 2020 – Jackson Family Wines, a family-owned wine business that crafts award-winning wines from a collection of more than 40 acclaimed wineries, has announced Mr Britt Ng (Malaysia / Singapore) as the winner of the coveted scholarship to attend a Court of Master Sommelier course. Exemplifying Jackson Family Wines’ commitment to supporting emerging talent in the wine industry, the scholarship is awarded annually to one recipient from a pool of applicants representing Asia, Europe and the Middle East. With the scholarship from Jackson Family Wines, Britt will attend the Court of Master Sommeliers Advanced Sommelier Course in 2020.

The scholarship from Jackson Family Wines is a fantastic opportunity for up-and-coming Sommeliers to be supported on the fee of entry to the Advanced Sommelier course; in addition, the scholarship winner receives the equivalent of 300 GBPs towards their study. Founded in 1977, The Court of Master Sommeliers was established to encourage improved standards of beverage service in hotels and restaurants and now conducts courses throughout the world. The title Master Sommelier marks the highest recognition of wine and spirits knowledge, beverage service abilities, and professionalism in the hospitality trade. There are currently only 273 Master Sommeliers in the world. Of the 4 stages required to reach the qualification of Master Sommelier, the Advanced Sommelier Course represents the third stage and is conducted over five days, with the final two and a half days devoted to examinations.

Britt is a passionate young individual with extensive knowledge of food and wine, garnered from over 7 years of restaurant experience. He has worked for chefs like Daniel Boulud and Gordon Ramsay, developing his craft of curating award-winning wine lists. He is also a Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers, a Certified Specialist of Wine from the Society of Wine Educators USA and a holder of WSET Level 3 Advanced Certification. He has won multiple awards throughout his career, including Malaysia’s Best Sommelier 2014 and 2019, Asia’s Best Sommelier in French Wines 2016 and 2019.
